A guide for putting a value on your tax deductions
Did you know that the federal law permits donors to claim tax deductions for contributions to My Sister’s Place? When you donate clothing and household items, you can place a value on those items and claim a tax deduction. The donated items must be in good or better condition. If you would be comfortable giving the items to a friend or neighbor, you can assume that they meet the qualification of being in good or better condition.
In order to claim a tax deduction, the U. S. Internal Revenue Services requires donors to value their items when filing their tax returns. Click the links below for a list of commonly donated items along with their estimated values. Keep in mind that the values are simple estimates and your items may fall outside of these guidelines.
